A fretless guitar is a guitar with a fingerboard without frets, typically a standard instrument that has had the frets removed, though some custom-built and commercial fretless guitars are occasionally made. The Fretless guitar, which is a stringed instrument, appeared in Mesopotamia with 5 strings, and was later developed with the addition of a 6th string. In 1940, the first electric guitar was developed and mass production started. The main types of this instrument, which has many types, are: electric guitar, classical guitar, acoustic guitar, bass guitar. The Fretless guitar is played with picks or nails.
It is seen as an exotic music in the western countries.
We can say that the main developments about guitar started from the 16th century. There were 4-string guitar-like instruments at that time. Towards the end of the 16th century, the 5th string was added to the 4-string guitar and took the name Spanish Guitar. The Fretless guitar, which was added to the 6th string at the end of the 18th century, started playing with the tuning system of today. Classical guitar has been used today in 1860 thanks to Antonio TORRES. The instrument we now call classical guitar was called TORRES guitar.
Fretless guitars are uncommon in most forms of western music and generally limited to the electrified instruments, due to their decreased acoustic volume and sustain.
The most important part of the classical guitar is its front side, called the soundboard. This part is most often made from spruce or cedar wood. The front of the handle of the guitar can be rosewood or ebony, the back can be maple or oak.
Classical guitar can be defined as the ancestor of all guitar types. In the middle of the body of the guitar, there is a round cavity called sound hole. When the strings of the guitar vibrate, the air inside the body vibrates and it emerges as a sound out of this round space, which is the only exit point. On classical guitar; 3 wires are thick, steel wrapped on silk, 3 wires are nylon. It is usually played with a finger. In classical guitar, the task of the right hand is more. Using the right hand, many different rhythms and harmonics can be created on the guitar. It is generally used in classical and flamenco style music.
